The Civil Law Non-Profit Company MYTHOMORPHIA was founded by Nina Papathanasopoulou in April 2025. Its main purpose is to spread awareness about the significance and timeless value of Greek myth.

MYTHOMORPHIA explores the various forms and shapes that ancient myths have acquired from antiquity to this day and searches for their many meanings and interpretations.

MYTHOMORPHIA supports all types of research on Greek myth, Greek drama and their reception, and organizes events of academic and cultural interest related to ancient myth.

MYTHOMORPHIA’s goals:

  • Rekindling public interest in Greek myth and its reception across time
  • Providing the broader public with access to and appreciation of an academic analysis of Greek myth
  • Increasing public awareness of Greece’s cultural heritage and the impact of Ancient Greek storytelling on many cultures and the arts worldwide
  • Underscoring the diversity of valid approaches to the interpretation of Greek myth
  • Highlighting the contribution of modern and contemporary art to the preservation and reinvention of ancient Greek culture
  • Demonstrating the potential of underexplored interdisciplinarity combining classical philology with other fields and especially with the performing (theater, dance, opera, music) and the visual arts
  • Conducting research on Greek myth, ancient drama, classical philology, as well as Greek culture, the arts, and literature more broadly
  • Organizing activities and events of academic, scientific and cultural interest, such as academic conferences, workshops, and events, the production of artistic performances, and the publication of books and articles on Greek myth and ancient storytelling

In 2025-2026 MYTHOMORPHIA is supporting the initiative Martha Graham & Greek Myth.

Martha Graham & Greek Myth combines the field of classical studies with modern dance to spread awareness on Greek myth. The initiative’s goal is to contribute to the interpretation and understanding of Greek myth through the art of dance, and to showcase the universal impact of ancient Greek culture on the arts and contemporary civilizations worldwide.

The initiative Martha Graham & Greek Myth produces a series of performances that center on Martha Graham’s use of Ancient Greek mythology and the portrayal of Ancient Greek heroes in her work. Its first production “Martha Graham & Greek Myth: Jocasta” was presented from 2022-2024 in Athens, Kalamata, Syros, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Rhodes, as well as in Paris, France. An early version of its second production “Martha Graham & Greek myth: Clytemnestra” premiered in Venice, Italy in 2024, while an enhanced and renewed version was performed at ELER – Eleni Erimou Theater in Athens in March 2025.
